Description Stockton SLSC Established 1908
Stockton Beach is the top beach in NSW in terms of length, wave energy and size of the barrier and sand dunes, as well as the age of its backing barriers. It occupies Newcastle Bight, known at its southern end as Stockton Bight, and lies to the north of the Hunter River mouth and the city of Newcastle. This beach is 31.8km in length and extends from Birubi Point in the north in a long sweeping arc, initially heading west, then gradually swinging round to the south-west and in the last few kilometres to the south. The beach is accessible only in the north at Birubi Point, where the car park provides an excellent view down the long beach and dunes, and in the south at the beachfront suburb of Stockton. For most of its length it is only accessible to 4WD.
Safety Rating 7 (in the north and centre) and 6 to 5 (in the south) (1-safest, 10-least safe)
