Description Newcastle SLSC Established 1908
Newcastle Beach is located below Newcastle Hospital and at the base of downtown. It is a place were office workers can enjoy the beach or a surf at lunchtime or after work, as well as the weekend. The back of the beach is highly modified with a seawall, road and parking along the beach; a large rock and a wading pool on the northern rocks; and the surf club in the centre. The beach, however, is one of the most hazardous on the coast being the site of several early drownings and as a result the first Newcastle Surf Club in 1908.
