Description
Ballina Lighthouse & Lismore SLSC
Established 1933

This now popular beach was characterised by rips and strong currents, and was long regarded as dangerous. After the entrance walls diverted the currents and the beach grew seaward it increased in popularity which led to the formation of the surf club in 1933. The result was an even greater increase in popularity, such that the club incorporated the name Lismore to attract more members from that town. During the Second World War every active senior member of the club enlisted, with 18 members paying the supreme sacrifice.
